This project started as just a late night investigation into why the Rogue One trailers and TV Spots had so many shot's that didn't appear in the finished film and as with all things I work on it ended up getting out of control and ultimately becoming an archive of material related to Rogue One A Star Wars Story. Including a detailed run down of the deleted and alternative scenes, production photos, concept art, promotional material, video and audio material and interviews.

Unknown Deleted Scene - Shuttle pilots

Back to Deleted and Alternate Scenes Main Menu

Description: Behind the scenes footage of 2 pilots in the Imperial cargo shuttle cockpit.
'Action' is called and a film camera is present and one of the pilots speaks a line of dialogue which closed captions on Movies Anywhere reads as 'Put him through'.

Speculations: As 'Action' is called and a film camera is present I would assume this is not a camera test. It's impossible to tell who the two pilots are - could it be Cassian and Bodhi? Could it be two Imperial pilots? Could it be the cut pilot cameo that actor Alan Tudyk has spoken about?

Notes: From starwarsnewsnet.com
In a new Reddit AMA interview, while promoting his ConMan web TV series, star Alan Tudyk (who plays the reprogrammed Imperial droid K-2SO) dropped an interesting tidbit regarding a cameo appearance in ‘Rogue One’ that featured the actor himself as a pilot.

The pilot character, whom Tudyk says will be absent from the final cut of the film, seems to have been based on another character that he plays in his web Con Man TV series named ‘Wray Nerely’.

Tudyk explains:
"I had a cameo I just found out got cut.” he said. Yeah, I guess it’s a cameo- Wray Nerely. So the character that I play in Con Man, sort of my alter ego in Con Man, had a role in Rouge One. I played a pilot, and the scene got cut. I just found out. Did Wray Nerely survive? I was really looking forward to seeing Wray Nerely in Star Wars, but truthfully Wray Nerely would never get that good of a job. So it was probably pretty good that he didn’t.”

Unknown Deleted Scene - Jyn on the beach

Back to Deleted and Alternate Scenes Main Menu

Description: Behind the scenes footage of Jyn Erso on what appears to be the Scarif beach.

Speculation: I'm not sure where this shot should fit. It's possible it's from the scene when Jyn helps the injured Cassian to get to the edge of the beach where they are ultimately killed.

Unknown Deleted Scene - Cassian looking serious

Back to Deleted and Alternate Scenes Main Menu

Description: Cassian Andor in what appears to be his heavier coat, looking serious with lights behind him.

Speculation: I suspect this is a shot set just after Cassian, Jyn, Baze and Chirrut board the newly acquired Imperial Cargo Shuttle on Eadu. The lighting behind Cassian appears to match the lighting on the shuttles ramp.

Jyn Erso Vs a Tie-Fighter

Back to Deleted and Alternate Scenes Main Menu

Description: Jyn Erso can be seen walking along a gantry towards the dish re-alignment controls as an Imperial Tie Fighter flies up into view.

Notes: from CinemaBlend - 'I spoke with Gary Whitta on the phone this week about his work on Rogue One, and after discussing the existence/non-existence of an opening crawl for the film, I asked him about the famed Jyn Erso vs. the TIE fighter shot. He said that he didn't remember that particular showdown being in any of the drafts he wrote (Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy also received writing credits on the movie), but realistically it's just one of thousands of ideas that just weren't ultimately considered good enough to include in the finished cut'.

From ew.com - Gareth Edwards - “It was something the marketing team fell in love with,” Edwards says. “We knew it would not be in the film. It’s one of those things where all the trailers are put together way before the film comes out. It wasn’t a specific part of the story.”

K-2SO's original death

Back to Deleted and Alternate Scenes Main Menu

Description: An ABC News section on the creation of K-2SO showing behind the scenes footage of actor Alan Tudyk performing as K-2SO outside a blast door. K-2SO appears to be taking multiple blaster hits before falling to the ground.

Notes: Cassian Andor is also lying on the ground outside the blast door.

Notes: Sand is present on the floor.

Speculation: It's assumed that in the original cut of Rogue One, that the rebels made it to the communications tower, and while Jyn attempts to transmit the plans, Cassian, K-2SO and the rebels secure the door. Then at some point both K-2SO and Cassian are either killed or injured.
Personally, I assume that K-2SO is destroyed here by Krennic or a combination of Krennic and his Death Troopers, Cassian is thought to be dead but is just injured. Once K-2SO is down - Krennic then makes his way through the door to stop Jyn and Cassian turns up again to shoot Krennic - as he does in the finished film.

Krennic on the beach

Back to Deleted and Alternate Scenes Main Menu

Description: Director Krennic is shown on Scarif walking through water towards the beach, pulling out his blaster pistol.

Speculation: it appears that in the original cut, Krennic followed behind Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor, K-2SO and the rebel troops as they made their way across the beach to the communications tower.

Krennic on Scarif

Back to Deleted and Alternate Scenes Main Menu

Description: Director Krennic either exiting the data vault facility to get to the beach, or Director Krennic exiting the lift that took him to the top of the communications tower.

Speculation: The reason for my confusion on this is the background does not match what we see in the finished film - When Cassian Andor appears at the last minute to shoot Krennic, the lift behind has orange sections to the top. To add further confusion - when Jyn Erso and Cassian then later go to the lift to leave the communications tower, the lift now has no orange sections.
It's possible that these could all be the same location, but the FX Dept coloured in the top of the lift behind Cassian to make it better match the orange lift that Krennic uses earlier in the finished version of the film, and then just forgot to colour the orange sections for when Jyn and Cassian approach the lift together.
